Amber - Getting organized properly
I've got myself more organized now. I've decided to put at least one thing on my day to do list from my list I made yesterday. Here are my three aspirations, this is what I want.
- My room is an electronic-free space
- Keep my temple covenants so that one day I can share a beautiful relationship with my chosen partner
- I like staying in the real world because of all of the wonderful real experiences I have in it
Below are my goals that will help make those aspirations a reality.
- Make signs of goals and affirmations as needed and display them where I will see.
- Study extra resources on each of the three sub goals.
- Work on changing my reactions to triggers.
- When I feel lonely I pick something from my service list and do it
- When I have trouble staying in the real world then I work on my current memorizing item
- When I feel tempted then I call someone on my close to list
- Practice all of the above (pausing to read signs and visualizing, picking up my memorizing, feeling lonely, and anything else).
- Repent every night before bed.
Monday:
* I read more in Joseph Smith History and I was struck by the confidence Joseph had when praying a second time. He fully expected to have another vision. He was not a child anymore but he had the humility and faith that a child has. To trust so completely is something I struggle with a great deal. Logically I know that is the way to go but I struggle to release control of things and let the Lord take over. It really would be easier in the end and it would be more successful as well. However I am getting better, I'm starting to involve the Lord in my goals and I've seen success in many ways. One step at a time I guess.
- I was busy all day and totally forgot to do my prayer. I put some stuff on the to do list but I was busy all day doing that stuff and never got to that part. I had the misfortune to have my computer fan finally get so bad that I couldn't use the computer which I needed for my goals. Fortunately I happened to have the replacement fan in a box waiting for this day so I spent a couple hours taking apart and putting my computer back together. It was a silent success because now the fan sounds like a whisper. It was sound like a little engine, going buzz all of the time but then it added a new louder sound like things were flicking around and grinding. It's so quiet now that I keep checking to make sure it is actually running.
- I'm also on my period and usually I just want to lie in bed with my phone or computer and a hot pad. However, I managed to put it off and spent most of the day out of my room and even better I kept the phone out of the room.
Tuesday:
* I read a talk "The Exquisite Gift of the Son", and I'm going to share my favorite quote. "Through Jesus Christ, we can escape the deserved agonies of our moral failings and overcome the undeserved agonies of our mortal misfortunes." This sounds splendid and I'm so glad I know of this and can partake every day of these blessings.
- I had more computer problems. I didn't put the fan in correctly so it wasn't keeping things cool enough. Then when I fixed it I forgot to plug it back into the motherboard which of course meant I had to go in again. I was too tired and just went to bed.
- I said a bit of a prayer but was so tired that I didn't do a great job.
- Also I wasn't feeling well all day and I confess I brought my phone in my room to lay down but still do something.
Wednesday:
* I read some of Joseph Smith History again and I found a part that made me think a little. When Joseph had sinned and was worried about his standing he turned to prayer. This is when Moroni came and said the Lord had a work for Joseph to do. The Lord has work for each of us specific to our own talents and abilities or capabilities. However, I often look at myself and then at the things I'm asked to do and say I'll do those later, I'm not ready yet. But here the Lord uses Joseph even when he is weak and sinful. If the Lord waited until we were perfect then we wouldn't do any work right now, we'd have to wait until sometime in the next life. Frankly I don't think we would get to that perfect state without doing things before we think we are ready. I guess I need to work on doing those things now and not worry about how ready I am.
- I did do some actual work on my other goals, just a bit of research.
- I did say my prayer but I fell asleep in the middle so it could have been better.
- I did keep my phone out except for my scripture study. I'm having a super hard time not having an actual book for Come Follow Me. I hope to get one asap so I don't feel the need to bring the phone in the room. It is the best place for study as there is no tv on and it is comfortable as well as Grandma doesn't interrupt me in my room. The only other place I can go to for sure be left alone is the basement and it is not comfortable!
Thursday:
* I read a few things but I go to Joel for my thought. Chapter 2 verses 28-32 talks about these last days and what things the Lord will do for his people. I particularly liked verse 28 which says "I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions". We have the blessing of the Holy Ghost with us and modern revelation. In addition to that verse 32 says "that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance". He gives guidance and knowledge and then delivers us when we ask.
- I missed a day and forgot how today went.
Friday:
* I also forgot what I studied today, apparently it wasn't that impressionable.
- I didn't really do anything today. I let myself be pulled around by everything else so I want tomorrow to be better.
Saturday:
* I read a talk by Elder Bednar "Let This House Be Built unto My Name". It was about temple work. He said at one point that doing temple work was selfless service. However, I feel like I often go for myself as well. I like the blessings I get so I never feel like it is a sacrifice. I get to go and enjoy a spirit filled activity with people I enjoy being around and we usually get to eat something as well. I receive revelation and am lifted from the world. I find more peace and joy in general. All of these blessings sometimes make me feel more selfish than selfless. What I do find more difficult to do is the work before the name gets to the temple. At the temple someone has already found a name for me I really don't have to do much work at all. So I think I might need to do more of the finding in order to be sacrificing things. Right now of course that is nearly all we can do so I'd like to try to do some.
- Didn't succeed at any of my goals today, not even my phone.
Sunday:
* I didn't read today again.
- I also didn't do good on the goals again.
So I didn't do great this week but next week will be better.
