Aimee-Loving Your Body

As you know, I've been trying to lose weight this year (and last year and the year before) and it's not going very well. Of course, I've been thinking of why things aren't going to plan and where I'm going wrong. But in the meantime, there is a of self-loathing and comments in the mirror to myself. A lot of insecurity, no make up, and baggy clothes. I keep telling myself that I'll take better care of myself when I'm thin and then I'll be happy. But I don't think it works that way. I think we have to learn to love the body we are in and appreciate it for all the amazing things it can do. There's nothing wrong with having physical goals, but they can't define you or your happiness. I'm not going to magically confident and happy with myself if I just lose some weight. I'm going to work on loving my body and taking better care of myself right now.

That being said, I had a doctor's appointment for my annual physical and had my blood work done. I got my vitamin D checked because I'm very fatigued, achey, and depressed (usually this third one, but still a factor). My vitamin D level is 12, which is pretty low. So I'm going to be taking some supplements and I hope that helps with my energy levels. I also have a cholesterol of 270... which is not good and up quite a bit from last year. So I'm going to work on lowering that.

Now, March 1st falls on a Monday. I love when that happens! I'm a numbers girl and it makes me even more motivated when things line up just perfectly! So I'll be making a solid plan today and attacking it tomorrow. It's also been warmer here, so I feel like I can enjoy my time on walks with Aspen more and that will help me get moving.

  1. I think the number one thing to remember is to give yourself grace. Be firm with yourself, push yourself to meal prep healthy things (particularly things you like: I like house salad, boiled egg sandwiches, etc), push yourself to exercise (also in ways that you enjoy). I really hated exercising, but I've been trying to find ways to do it that I enjoy! But remember that it is totally fine to give yourself a break.
I have a goal to do 4 workouts a week. Those workouts are usually not more than 20 minutes each. The other days, I don't feel bad about not working out, because I hit my goal (or will hit my goal). If I need a mental health day, I'll take it, and put my workout on the calendar for the next day. I eat desserts, but try to limit how much I eat. It is helpful that Austin isn't much of a sweet tooth, so I try to limit myself by stopping when he does.

    You can do this Aimee!

    1. Thank you! I have had a relatively fruitful day, and that gives me hope. I think meal prepping is one of the hardest things for me to fit in. The dog begs me the whole time and it takes my entire day off. But it makes things much easier. I miss exercising like I use to, it made me feel so full. But it's just a new journey for me right now.

  2. Aimee I can testify on the loving and accepting your body as it is right now. I've been working on that and have finally decided to stop waiting on things. I'm going to make a dress form according to my current measurements in order to fix or make clothes for my shape and that is going to be a small investment. I would suggest finding things you love in your body when you look in the mirror. It is difficult for your body to heal and get better if you are thinking and telling it that it is ugly and not good enough. That is some pretty negative energy there. After all God made your body the way it is for a reason, he thinks you are beautiful and he is not wrong so definitely love your body as it is. That doesn't mean you give up on getting healthy. On the contrary when you love something you take better care of it so it can only help.

    1. I think that's the point. Loving yourself makes taking care of yourself easier. Thank you:)

  3. I am terrible at trying to take care of myself with hair, makeup, and clothes. I have recently been making sure that by noon I have put my contacts in, brushed my hair, put on mascara, have some earrings in, and have clothes on that I wouldn't mind company seeing me in(frankly not a high bar for me on the clothes. It usually means jeans and a t-shirt). On days that I feel like I need a little extra I wear this particular long sleeved shirt, it makes me feel sexy for whatever reason. Now it hasn't happened every single day, but I have felt a lot better about myself. Also, you and I are extremely addicted to sugar, we have been since we were kids. You remember when Cameron had to buy you 10 candy bars for doing ten candy bars on your head? I was so mad because you ate them all in a couple hours and didn't even share any with me. Imagine if you will an alcoholic, they will never be able to regulate a drink here or there, it is either all or nothing. I have been listening to this counselor and he has the same problem. He has worked really hard on his health. He says he does all or nothing. So he says no sugar period. Then on special occasions like maybe Christmas or a birthday or maybe he breaks down and wallows, he just eats it all. The hard part is that your spouse needs to be in on it. He needs to be willing to not have the treats in the house. This might mean he sneaks off to get cake or and ice cream on his own or with a buddy. I like that because I cannot say just on Saturday or only if I ate enough veggies today. I feel like the cookie monster.

  4. I feel better when I wear make up and clothes. Most of my clothes don't fit me. One pair of pants left and a couple of shirts.

Haha I do remember the 10 candy bars, I'm sorry I didn't share. I ate 8 of them in an hour and saved two to eat in secret in the morning. Always been addicted. The problem with 100% abstaining for the things I love, is it creates more hate for me. I hate myself and I feel like a failure. I have bulimia and it really rears it's head when I am too strict. I can't afford it. If I go off sugar, I just eat more of something else. I have to find a balance I think. What do you think?
