Amber - Feeling Better

I have made it through my short sugar-less stint.  I was actually doing a toxin cleanse because I was feeling really unwell from all the sugar I was eating.  I am back to eating whatever I want but just less.  Maybe later I'll cut things out but I also have my other goals that are taking precedence.  I'm a one thing at a time person.  I do feel much better both from eating less sugar and also from eating some.  Last Sunday I was feeling really hungry and really sick of eating the stuff I could eat.  So on to this week.  Here are the goals again.

One time things.
  • Write up my call list
  • Put up all of my signs and affirmations
  • Make a plan of what extra things I'm going to study
  • Make a plan of how I want to practice doing my daily goals
Daily goals
  • Keep my room electronic-free
  • Do service when I'm lonely
  • Memorize when I drift off into an imaginary world
  • Call someone when I feel tempted
  • Repent each night
Monday:

* I did read today but I also had really poor sleep the last two nights and I just couldn't keep awake enough to focus.  I spent the morning doing stuff with Mom, Chad, and Grandma and getting ready for a lunch outing.  Then we had lunch and then I came home realized I hadn't read, I did so but was falling asleep.  I finally quit and a took a short nap (I never nap because I can't fall asleep during the day but I did today).  I did a couple mindless things but couldn't keep my eyes open for much else and went to bed early.
  • Nothing on the goals
Tuesday:

* I read a conference talk about prayer by Elder Ballard.  In fact yesterday everything I read was about prayer too.  What I learned is that I need to include more prayer in my day.  Elder Ballard said " the best way to help the current world situation is for all people to rely more fully upon God and to turn their hearts to Him through sincere prayer."  He said that Christ is the source of all healing and that the power of prayer is great.  He then urged all to prayer in what I took as five different ways in my life.  In your closets (set daily personal prayers), in your daily walk (while striving to do as he asks), in your homes (family prayer), in your wards (usually on Sundays at church), in your hearts (throughout the day as things come up or as you feel).  For me that came to at least 5 set prayers a day.  I don't know that I pray five times a day.  Morning and Evening prayers, for my scripture study and for my goal effort for the day, and family prayer.  This does not include the prayer in my heart or any other things I am trying to accomplish in the day.  I've done really good at my scripture study over the last year or so.  It is about time I worked on my prayers more.
  • I finally put up my signs!  It took way too long, I thought it would be more difficult that it was to find where to put them and how but it was super easy once I just started.  This includes my electronic-free sign on my door.  What this means is that my phone is now banned from the room for good.  The sign keeps it out and I am feeling excited again.  I love my room arrangement right now and I feel better and sleep better when I don't have my phone/computer in there.
Wednesday:

* Today I found a little thought in D&C 24.  The Lord is talking to Joseph and tells him to devote himself to Zion and that he will have strength in this thing.  Then he says in verse 9, "And in temporal labors thou shalt not have strength, for this is not thy calling.  Attend to they calling and thou shalt have wherewith to magnify thine office".  If you've been reading my posts very often then you will know that one of my weaknesses is the desire to do it myself and to do it my way.  I've been getting much better at it recently but often I figure out a plan that is very logical and reasonable and sounds fun to do and I want to do it.  Often I don't involve the Lord is this plan so when I am about to embark I feel like I shouldn't.  This frustrates me because it is a good plan!  So sometimes I do it anyways and I always fail!  When you do good things in place of what the Lord told you to do then you are going to fail in some way but when you do what he asks in his way then you are given the strength to accomplish this thing.
  • I have done well keeping my phone out of my room, well not just well, I'd say it is a smashing success.
Thursday:

* I did read and I even wrote this up already but tomorrow came and apparently it didn't save and I can't remember now.  Oh it was a talk by Elder Uchtdorf.
  • Still great on my electronic-free room.
Friday:

* My reading was D&C 25 which is the revelation to Emma.  I unfortunately didn't finish this because I went on vacation.  I mean I read but I was unable to get my computer to connect to the internet in both of the places I spent the night.  I've pretty much forgotten what I studied or learned since then.  Though I did read on Saturday.

  3. I love being able to read about how you interpret your scripture study. I need to be better at praying. I need to get back into the habit of rolling onto my knees from bed, instead of waiting until my first meal. I also want to try to have a prayer in my heart throughout the day. In high-school I would say a prayer in between classes almost every day because of how hard I was struggling with different things. Now I find my daily life so repetitive I forget that I should continue to pray, even if just about little things.

  5. Love your thoughts! One thing that's helped me on praying more often is setting a reminder alarm. Even if I can't stop and kneel down when the alarm goes off, I can at least pray in my heart and intentionally turn my mind to Heavenly Father and acknowledge my love and gratefulness for his help. It's been a really good thing for me. It sounds like you're doing better!
